What is Lip Blush and how does it work?

Lip Blush is a form of semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo of the lips, giving a definition and the illusion of fullness. For the full results, 2 treatments are required 6 to 8 weeks apart. This treatment gives very natural results once healed, which lasts up to 18 months,  but in some cases up to 3 years depending on your skin type and your life style.

You can choose a shade from the bespoke lip pigment range available, which will be deposited via a tiny mechanized needle into your lips, building layers of colour.

The benefits:

Wake up with lips with enhanced colour and definition to your lips. Lip Blush can help even out the shape and tone of your lips as well as make them look fuller.

Prior to the treatment:

You’ll need to have a patch test at least 48 hours before your appointment.

The Lip Blush procedure:

You can pre-numb topically before you arrive and it’s advisable to eat something before. The room will be sanitized before you arrive. When you arrive, we will go through the procedure, the desired outcome, and health and safety which would have been discussed with you beforehand. You can ask as many questions as you wish before the treatment takes place. Age identification will be checked and before photos will be taken. You’ll be asked to wear a hair net and then your lip area will be cleansed and then sanitised. With prior consent, topical numbing will be applied for 20 to 30 minutes. After the numbing, your lip shape will be drawn and you'll be shown. The shape can be changed as many times as you need to feel comfortable.

The outline of your lips will be created first with the cosmetic tattoo machine, followed by the shading. Between each pass of colour you'll have numbing applied to make you more comfortable during the treatment. At any point during the procedure, you can ask for a break. Once the treatment is complete, a special ointment/ smoothing gel will be applied. You'll be shown your Lip Blush.

An after photo will be taken and all aftercare advice will be reiterated to you and your aftercare pack will be provided. Please ask any questions you have.

Treatment frequency:

You’ll need a "colour boost" 6 to 8 weeks after your first appointment. After your first "colour boost", it's advised for another "colour boost" appointment every 12 to 14 months to maintain the colour.

Aftercare:

The healing process is around 30 days but most clients will see the final results within a couple of weeks. The after care is incredibly important!

Key points:

  • Change your pillow case the day of your Lip Blush appointment.

  • Don’t touch your lips to avoid infection

  • Don’t pick or scratch your lips because it could lead to infection and scarring

  • Avoid smoking, hot drinks, eat spicy or very salty food for at least 7 days after your treatment.

  • Avoid steam and heated environments to prevent loss of pigment for at least 7 days after your treatment.

  • Avoid sun beds and intense UV exposure for at least 14 days.

The recovery process, which you may have all or none of or anywhere in-between:

Day 1: Your Lips will look intense in terms of colour, but will lighten by 4 shades. They can feel tight, sore and swollen.

Day 2 to 3:  Your lips will feel dry and may flake and/or scabs may appear. It's important you don't pick, scrub or scratch your lips.

Day 4 to 6: The colour will be lighter than straight after your appointment and the flaking should almost be gone.

Day 7-10: Your final lip colour will appear and will feel and look normal.

The healing process:

Lip Blush healing process

You may on the day experience excess lymph fluid (lymph is a clear fluid-like substance which might slightly ooze from the skin), this is part of the normal healing process and you need to gently blot (don’t rub) the area with a clean tissue but don’t hold the tissue onto the area. Don’t let the lymph fluid dry on the lips and form a crust because when the crust falls off the pigment may come off with it.

Frequently asked questions:

Does the Lip Blush process hurt?

On a pain scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is the most pain experienced, most people say that it's a 4 or 5 but starts at a 1, however everyone's pain threshold is different. I've had clients that have said that they can feel the machine tickle and others who said it's really painful. Remember you'll have numbing before and during the treatment. We can take breaks if you need.
