What are PhiBrows?

PhiBrows is a method of microblading, which is a semi-permanent technique of hyper-realistic eyebrows created by Branko Babic. PhiBrows is the only worldwide microblading brand and therefore world renowned for being the best. The very basis of the PhiBrows methodology is derived from the Greek letter Phi Φ, which in Greek numerals has a value of 500 and the average number of hairs on a human eyebrow is 250, so 500 eyebrow hairs on a human face; coincidence? I think not! The symbol of Phi Φ is also represented in the PhiBrows logo (with the addition of a brow silhouette) and the Golden Ratio, which in mathematics is signified as the divine proportion; equal to about 1.618. The Golden Ratio appears many times in nature, art, architecture and geometry, and to many symbolises true beauty. Even Leonardo Da Vinci created many illustrations for “De Divina Proportione” (On the Divine Proportion), a book written by Luca Pacioli around 1498, and focuses on the mathematical and artistic proportion, particularly the mathematics of the golden ratio and application in art and architecture.

What are PhiBrows?
The Vitruvian Man Da Vinci

The Vitruvian Man (c. 1490) by Leonardo da Vinci is a pen and ink drawing with surrounding notes that has become one of the artist’s most famous drawings from the Renaissance period. It is based on his studies of human proportion, symmetry, the golden or divine ratio and balance, bridging the gap between art and mathematics.

The golden ratio is seen on humans, our faces are 1.618 times longer than in width, the ratio between the width of the eye and the iris is 1.618 etc. Branko Babic created the PhiBrows microblading technique utilising the golden ratio to calculate a system of divine proportion measurements for the ideal brows mapping, which can be applied to anyone because it uses the own individual’s facial features. Therefore, you could say that when you have PhiBrows, your eyebrows are by divine design.

The benefits of PhiBrows:

Wake up with perfect brows that have hair like strokes. It gives those who have alopecia or sparse brow hairs their confidence back and doesn’t smudge or wear off with exercise unlike make up.

PhiBrows Microblading procedure:

The room will be sanitized before you arrive. When you arrive, we will go through the procedure, health and safety which would have been discussed with you beforehand. You can ask as many questions as you wish before the treatment takes place. Age identification will be checked  and before photos will be taken. You’ll be asked to wear a hair net and then your brow area will be cleansed and then sanitised. Your hands will also be sanitised  with PhiSepto (most people have a natural reaction to touch their brows).

Your bespoke divine brows will be precisely drawn out and then you’ll be sat up so you can see the shape. The brow hair around the divine brow shape will be removed. Then using a PhiBrows manual disposable hand tool composed of very fine needles resembling the shape of a blade, small incisions will be made while simultaneously implanting specialised hypoallergenic, EU REACH 2022 compliant, PHI SUPER pigment into the dermal layer (lower layer) of the skin, to resemble each individual brow hair. An antiseptic will be applied between passes. Once the PhiBrows are complete a ink mask will be left on for around 5 minutes before the pigment residue is cleaned off. You’ll be sat up to see your beautiful fresh PhiBrows. An after photo will be taken and all aftercare advice will be reiterated to you; the after care is 50% of the how the final result. Please ask any questions you have.

Who can't have PhiBrows?
PhiBrows Aftercare

The Oh Hello You Beauty Aftercare Pack

Key points:

  • Change your pillow case the day of your PhiBrows microblading and try not to sleep on your brows

  • Don’t touch your brows to avoid infection

  • Don’t pick your brows because it will lead to infection and scarring

  • Keep your brows dry for at least 10 days – this means don’t wash your brows (lean back while washing your hair), don’t go swimming, use saunas or steam rooms, don’t do activity that will break a sweat.

  • Don’t use products around and definitely not on, the brow area containing glycolic acid, lactic acid or AHA or any exfoliants.

  • You will be given an aftercare ointment, which only use if your brows are beyond itchy. Only apply the ointment with a clean cotton swab and only apply by dabbing a minimal amount to not leave a noticeable shine or film on the eyebrows.

The recovery process, which you may have all or none of or anywhere in-between:

Day 1: Your brows will look perfect

Day 2 to 5: They may look too dark and thick but this is normal

Day 5 to 10: The brows may look like they’re changing shape and there may be flaking, but this is normal and please let the skin do it’s healing process and don’t pick it.

Day 10 to 15: The brows may look like they’ve faded but this is normal

Day 15 to 30. The brows starts to come back with their bold colour and beautiful shape.

Touch up day: The final hair stroke will be added for the ultimate microbladed brows

You may on the day experience excess lymph fluid (lymph is a clear fluid-like substance which might slightly ooze from the skin), this is part of the normal healing process and you need to gently blot (don’t rub) the area with a clean tissue but don’t hold the tissue onto the area. Don’t let the lymph fluid dry on the brows and form a crust because when the crust falls off the pigment may come off with it.

Frequently asked PhiBrows (microblading) questions:

Does PhiBrows microblading hurt?

On a pain scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is the most pain experienced, most people say it’s a 2 or 3. The first pass is generally considered the most painful . However, everyone has different pain thresholds and breaks can be taken at any point.

Do my eyebrows need to be completely shave your eyebrows off?

No, your eyebrow hair won't be shaved completely off. Once the divine shape has been drawn out, the surrounding hair will be removed so the brows are sharp. We are here to enhance your natural beauty not completely recreate it.

Will I scar?

Scaring can occur if the aftercare treatment isn’t followed correctly. Also, there has been a lot of scare stories in the media where people are performing microblading who haven’t been trained or have the mentality that the deeper you go the longer the microblading will last, which isn’t true. At Oh Hello You Beauty the microblade artist has been fully trained and isn’t heavy handed and make sure that the blade strokes are even and cuts deep enough for the pigment to be held in the skin. However, if you have a history of Keloid scarring (raised scarring where an overgrowth of tissue occurs beyond the site of the trauma) or Hypertrophic scarring (raised scarring where the skin thickens at the site of the trauma), we are unable to provide the PhiBrows (microblading) treatment due to the risk of these scars occurring, and please don't let anyone talk you into having a treatment where your skin in broken during a treatment process, this is your face after all!

How long does it take?

For the first Microblading session, the entire procedure should take about 2-3 hours. During this session, your eyebrow will mapped out. Once you're happy we will begin the procedure.

You will need to come in for a follow up visit in order to have any minor necessary touch ups. The second Microblading session takes place after 6-8 weeks after the initial session. This session will take approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete.

How long does it take to heal?

The eyebrow area will be slightly red after the procedure and colour will appear very dark. This is normal for the procedure and part of the healing process. The colour will fade by up to 40% as it heals. In the following days, the eyebrows will continue to be dark and you will notice slight scabbing. Do not pick at the scabs as this may damage the skin and the outcome of the microbladed area. The eyebrows will lighten up in colour as it heals. No down time is required after microblading procedure.  It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over, and about 1 month for the colour to fully set in. You'll notice the colour is very light right after the two weeks after healing; the skin will have an opaque milky looking quality to it. This is known as the milk skin and is common in tattooing. This is due to the the tissue still healing from the inside out even though the surface of the skin is healed. True colour will reveal itself once healed.

What activities should I avoid after having PhiBrows?

After permanent makeup treatment, you should avoid any activity that includes sweating. So, no working out, visiting saunas, sitting in the sun. No swimming, especially swimming in the sea , water can damage your freshly done microblading or any other permanent makeup treatment.

How long does it last?

Since microblading pigments are not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoos, the area will naturally fade overtime.  Microblading typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type (normal, oily, dry), age (youthful/mature). Skincare routine will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment: patients who tan, uses products with AHA or Glycolic Acid with fade faster as your skin will resurface faster. Each individual's colour retention within the skin will vary. To maintain the brows looking fresh, a touch up is suggested every 12-18 months. Clients can let the microbladed area fade over time, but please note a slight shadow may remain.

Can I wear make up afterwards?

We strongly advise not to put any make up around your brows for at least two weeks, however you can wear light face make up avoiding the brow area. It's advisable not to have any big occasions or extreme sun exposure for at least 2 weeks afterwards while your brows heal. Your brows can look up for 40% darker for the week following the treatment so just bare that in mind when you are booking your appointment.

What qualifications and license does Oh Hello You Beauty have?

Our Microblading specialist was initially trained in Microblading at the Eclipse School of Beauty and Aesthetics, London in February 2019 and then went on to train with the Phi Academy, London in PhiBrows in March 2022. We achieved our license to carry out cosmetic tattooing (also known as semi permanent make up or micro pigmentation) by Portsmouth City Council in January 2022.

Why should I have a top up treatment every 12 to 14 months?

Everyone's skin and life styles are different. Natural fading occurs from external influences such as sun exposure, as well as physiological factors such as the gradual breakdown of the pigments as your body metabolizes it out of your system. If you have oily skin this will accelerate the pigment fading.
